The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has given a provisional approval for the implementation of an interim open access (IOA) in the Luzon grid.

Engr. Ed Mendoza on EPIRA Law
The Northern Laguna Chapter on its 4nd year of service to the electrical practitioners working or residing in the 1st district of Laguna welcomes the members, guests, sponsors and exhibitors to the 3rd Technical Conference.
This annual activity will showcase up-to-date information and activities in support of the professional development and competitiveness of electrical practitioners in Region IV especially in Northern Laguna Area. It also aims to bring together the active members in the chapter and the student members.
This event, aside from the regular technical and product seminars, conference will also give opportunity to the chapter to render charitable service, as part of the proceeds will be used to help the residents of selected areas ravaged and / or affected by typhoon “Frank”.
During this conference the chapter will also give updates on the direction of on-going implementation of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA), buying power in a competitive retail environment and provide information about the software solution for managing the buying mix and managing the energy usage of a facility using web-based technology. This conference will also updates members on the issues about Ecozone rates, RES/SoLRs, INTERIM OPEN ACCESS vs FULL OPEN ACESS—interim conditionalities vs provisions of ERC rules on Open Access and many more.

(By Engr. Leslie Devina) An enriching seminar conducted by the newly elected IIEE-NLC president, Engr. Jozane Jalbuena was anticipated and attended by 4th and 5th year EE, IE and CPE students of UPHSL in Lecture Hall last January 25, 2008. The seminar title “5s” interestingly stands for Seiri (Sort), Seiton (Systemize), Seiso (Sanitize), Seiketsu (Standardize) and Shitsuke (Sustain). The four-hour seminar also covered other topics such as Waste Management and ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
Through the efforts of the active UPHSL Electrical Engineering Student Council headed by Acting President Czarah Trinidad, the said seminar was delivered with success.
Engr. Rodolfo Mendoza (EE-Department Chair), Engr. Leslie Divina (EE Student Council Adviser and IIEE-NLC Secretary), Engr. Teresita Gonzales (IE-Department Chair), Engr. Nancy Mercado and Engr. Leilani Gonzales were all present to support the said event.

NLC receives the Award
For the second straight year, IIEE-Northern Laguna Chapter (IIEE-NLC) won the most coveted award given to a local chapter equalizing the feat done by their mother chapter, Central Laguna Chapter (CLC), whom plum the “Most Outstanding Chapter (Big Category)” award in 2002 and 2003. Given last November 10, 2007, the award ceremony was held at SMX at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City during the closing ceremony of the IIEE’s 32nd Annual Convention. Attending the occasion are the former chapter presidents,Dennis Saavedra, the Immediate former Chapter President; Larry Cruz, the first chapter president and now IIEE Region IV governor; current chapter officers led by their president Engr. IIEE-Northern Laguna Chapter (NLC) would like to congratulate the new Electrical Engineers of University of Perpetual Help System - Laguna for passing the September 2007 Electrical Engineer Licensure Examinations given by the Board of Electrical Engineering in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Tacloban and Zamboanga this September 2007. The result of examinations with respect to one (1) examinee was withheld pending final determination of his liabilities under the rules and regulations governing licensure examinations.
The members of the Board of Electrical Engineering who gave the licensure examinations are Engr. Rodolfo R. Peñalosa, Chairman; Engr. Edward L. Mendoza and Engr. Jaime V. Mendoza, Members.
Registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will start on Monday, October 1, 2007 but not later than October 28, 2007. Those who will register are required to bring the following: duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, current Community Tax Certificate (cedula), 2 pieces passport size picture (colored with white background and complete nametag), 1 piece 1″ x 1″ picture (colored with white background and complete nametag), 2 sets of metered documentary stamps, and 1 short brown envelope with name and profession; and to pay the Initial Registration Fee of P600 and Annual Registration Fee of P450 for 2007-2010 for REGISTERED ELECTRICAL ENGINEER; Initial Registration Fee of P450 and Annual Registration Fee of P420 for 2007-2010 for REGISTERED MASTER ELECTRICIAN.

The 8th Regional Conference of the Electrical Engineers in Region IV will be held on March 23-25, 2007 at the Skylight Apartelle, Rizal Ave., Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Electrical Engineers, Electricians and Guests from the provinces of Batangas, Quezon, Laguna, Cavite, Marinduque, Batangas and Mindoro are expected to attend this regional event.
As a way of supporting IIEE activities, Northern Laguan Chapter (NLC) will be sending one of the biggest delagation from inland chapter of the region and thus will send six officers to the conference.
This conference is held annually in different chapters and this year, this conference wil be highlighted by product presentation, technical sessions and forums to update member on today’s electrical profession and allied fields trends.
